I am always asked about the weekend gaps, and whether we can trade them and make some money or not. this is a good chance to have a post about the gaps, because yesterday the forex market opened with some relatively big gaps with many of the currency pairs.. One of most known ways to trade the gaps is to trade the close of the gaps; in most cases the market price tend to fill the gaps created on weekend. meaning if the price opens with a gap down , the market price will go up to fill the gap, if the market price opens with a gap up, then it will go down to fill the gap.. When there is a positive news happens for a currency on the weekend it will gap up when market open next day. long story short, your weekend gap is a bit of a myth. weekend gaps happen because the true interbank side of the foreign exchange is open 24/7, but your retail spot forex broker is only open 24/5.. Note that because the forex market is a 24-hour market (it is open 24 hours a day from 5pm est on sunday until 4pm est friday), gaps in the forex market appear on a chart as large candles..
